According to the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), "The object of the game is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of throws of the disc."
Walter (Fred) Morrison passed away February 9, 2010 in his home in Monroe, Utah at the age of 90. See the True Origins of the Frisbee for more information.
DB5 Lightning disc golf basket On the disc golf course, there are no greens or holes, instead there are 9-18 disc golf baskets or frisbee golf targets. Disc
golf courses are built, following the same idea as ball golf with
"holes" or "tees", water hazards and pars. Each throw is counted like
a "stroke" and the object of the game is to get your disc or frisbee
into the disc golf target in the least amount of throws. The concept
of the frisbee began in the 30's with a man named Fred Morrison. See the True Origins of the Frisbee for more information.
Today there are thousands of disc golf courses worldwide, almost anywhere in the United States you can find a course near you. The PDGA or Professional Disc Golf Association has over a thousand members. There are hundreds of professional and sponsored disc golfers. Tournaments can be found regionally and even worldwide. Unlike ball golf, there is no need for extensive course design, including felling trees and extreme pesticide, fertilizers or water waste. Some of the best courses are deep in the woods and the disc golf baskets are strategically placed in and amongst the trees, making this the essential outdoor sport. Disc golf is great exercise and the sport can accomodate all ages, disabilities, sizes and genders. It's a perfect sport for physical education departments, schools, outdoor enthusiasts, recreation departments and parks as any 2 foot ground space is suitable for a disc golf basket. As for disc golf discs, most players find 3-6 discs are suitable for a round, others like to have their entire collection on every course. On August 28th, 2011 the State of Vermont and parts of New Hampshire was ravaged by Hurricane Irene. Thousands have lost everything and are displaced or unable to leave their homes. Over 200 bridges have been destroyed and 5 historic covered bridges in Vermont are gone. Whole towns are stranded and others are unreachable by main roads. Electricity is said to be out for weeks in some parts of the state of Vermont. Railroad beds are destroyed and in places the tracks are hovering over thin air where there once was land. The cost of the damage to the infrastructure of Vermont is astronomical, and most of the folks who lost their homes did not have flood insurance.
